ENGINE & HOSE COMPANY 1

Engine & Hose Company 1 was an original Company formed within the Department when the ‘Central Islip Hook & Ladder & Chemical Engine Company 1’ was disbanded and reorganized as the ‘Central Islip Fire Department’ on May 6, 1929.  Membership at the time consisted of 15 members until it was increased to 20 on May 6, 1925.  This eventually increased to 25 members, not including Senior Active Members with 20 or more years of service. In the beginning the company was run by a Foreman and an Assistant Foreman.  The title of Foreman and Assistant Foreman was changed to that of Captain and Lieutenants for all Companies as of the December 4, 1933 Department Meeting. Engine and Hose Company 1 has been assigned the following apparatus, A 1930 Maxim 750 Gallon Pumper purchased for $8,500.00 from the Maxim Motor Company, A 1944 Chevrolet 500 GPM pumper with 150 gallon booster tank, A 1961 Maxim 1000 GPM pumper with 500 gallon tank and a 1979 Pierce Duplex cab and chassis 1250 GPM pumper with 750 gallon tank. The apparatus currently assigned to Engine & Hose Company 1 is a  1997 Pierce Lance 1500 GPM pumper with 750 gallon tank. Engine & Hose Company #1 was originally assigned to the Truck House on East Suffolk Avenue.  With the completion of the new Fire House on Carleton Avenue in 1937, the Company was moved to this location, and then to the new Headquarters building when it was completed in 1991.
